All right. So we're here with Joe Mills Joe is my co-MC for the Mile High here about today And, as you can imagine, it's going to be a good time. It's going to be a great time.
Speaker 3:It's going to be a great future. I really we were kind of we were up in the air this whole thing. It's been four years since we've done our last one. We don't remember any of our passwords to get into any of our apps or software. We're scrambling. Do we know how to do this anymore? Are people going to come, are we going to get sponsors, and it's kind of all a good one together.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's really great And it's cool to see the speed style starting up And that man is working.
Speaker 3:Yeah, adam's a pro. So Adam is actually our two-time. He's the only person who's ever won this event. Oh, really, yeah, i believe we've done it twice before. We had the full five competitors, i think both previous times, and he took the crown both times. So I got to say I like his chances today. Yeah, his is pretty good. It would be a shocking upset if he were to not win first place in this particular category.
Speaker 1:Yeah, no, he's great, He's scared off all the competition, exactly.
Speaker 3:I love how the back lighting also highlights the spritzing of the God's great food, yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah, well, i think the and if you're listening to this, chances are you have some sort of play share. But just in case you know, it's amazing to see just how many hair products that we bearded over like to use. All about the products. We have probably just as many hair styling products as most ladies do. So you just got back from Worlds. How'd that go?
Speaker 3:I did. Worlds was great. It was a lot of fun. It was my first European competition that I actually made it to, So yeah, it was a lot of fun. Birdhouse in Bavaria, right on the border of Austria I slept with medieval town, the castle and stuff Made lots of new friends. Hans, Ulf, Lucas, Philip, lots of good European new friends.
Speaker 1:Showbiz in Europe.
Speaker 3:Exactly.
Speaker 2:Yeah, ulf.
Speaker 3:Ulf Hans. Hans did not get my die hard reference. I was like ah, ah ah. Didn't, went right over his head.
Speaker 1:So did anything stand out at the Worlds for fear?
Speaker 3:Stand out. Lots of good guys won Lots of good guys and girls won People I knew. Lots of good places for some American friends of mine. Patrick Dawson finally took first place. The goatee took down Aaron Johnson.
Speaker 1:After five tries I think it was Upset of the sanctuary, yeah it was fantastic And I think the most interesting people that they may not know is that a woman won Best in Show.
Speaker 3:Yes, oh, they had Best in Show for the women in the Best in Show overall And, shocker at, german won Best in Show.
Speaker 5:What Right now? I'm probably.
Speaker 3:No way Fantastic. I mean, you can't argue when it comes to Best in Show, everybody up there. you're like I don't know who's fine. I mean you're seeing all everybody up on the stage at the same time. You're like I don't know, maybe I don't know, you pick a couple and it's just, it's a toss, yeah.
Speaker 1:And you don't want to be a judge for one of those competitions. No Amazing face layer all around. Mcing is where it's at. That's right. How many competitors were at Worlds?
Speaker 3:this year, do you know? I think 300 somebody, i think I was there like. So my category was the first day and it was maybe 175. And so they registered more people following day, so I'm pretty sure it was over 300. That's a good turnout. Sure is Janom.
Speaker 1:I'm assuming most of them did not come from Germany.
Speaker 3:No, oh, yeah, yeah, plenty, like lots of Americans, lots of other Europeans as well Iceland, lots of Brits, lots of French, few Italians here and there. One Santa came all the way from Brazil, But everybody Jeremy came all the way from Alaska. He got third place in the big beer category. So that was nice, yeah, yeah, so it was a lot of good, a lot of good American Lechrons. Exactly, we swept the USA, swept the natural mustache category, nice.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it was our first time We know how to rock the mustaches, that's for sure.
Speaker 3:We sure do. But yeah, it's really. I'm really glad you guys are out here today. It's going to be fun. We're going to be popping in doing little many interviews here and there.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's going to be great. We're going to have, hopefully, as many people as we can Come over and say hello.
Speaker 3:Yeah, once Adam gets done with his speed style, have him come over here and do a little interview and see the results. Oh, mario's here, and Grizzly the rodeo clown, i don't know.
Speaker 1:So for those, of you who are facial hair officiatonados and need an excuse to travel. beard and mustache competitions are where it at. If you can't convince your significant other that you need to go to Germany, it's the world competition. Oh, look what happens to you here this week. Right, yeah, you want to go to New Zealand, although, next, so World's 2025, pittsburgh, Oh nice Home soil, Home soil yeah.
Speaker 3:Not. I mean, it's not going to Germany or anything like that, But here at Pittsburgh is nice whatever.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3:I've never been to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1:I am curious.
Speaker 3:what is the deal with yinns? Are you familiar with this Yins? They say yinns, It's like y'all.
Speaker 6:I have never heard of it. This is a real thing.
Speaker 3:It doesn't seem to make any sense if you're not from there. But they're like hey, what are yinns up to today? What are?
Speaker 1:yinns up to.
Speaker 3:It's a real thing. Prove me wrong, i don't know. Right in that, right in that. Call this number below with your tips and with your hatred for us for ripping on Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1:Yeah, no, I mean if you're from Pittsburgh, if you're listening to this, yeah, comment below. We'd love to know all about yinns.
Speaker 3:Yeah, is it real? I don't. I feel like it's a joke that people play on you when you're not from Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1:Yeah, they're very well played. Tell me if it's real.
Speaker 3:I don't ever see it on Pittsburgh Steelers games when they happen to cross my path.
Speaker 1:So I don't know I can't say either way, yeah, please, yeah if you're out there, if you're from the Pittsburgh area and you know about this, let us know, because we would love to hear, but.
Speaker 3:Pittsburgh 2025, Detroit 2024 is the great American bearded mustache championships. That's our continental US, Canada, Mexico championships. That's going to be a lot of fun. The British city boys can be hosting that one. Yes.
Speaker 1:And then, november of this year, daytona Beach, daytona.
Speaker 3:Beach. yes, Beard Team USA Nationals. That's going to be a fun one.
Speaker 1:Yeah, there's a lot going on. And again, if you're listening and you're like, well, that's great, but I don't want to travel or I can't get there. beardcalendarcom was literally every bearded mustache competition that you can find. They, as Joe said before, they literally scour the internet looking for bearded mustache competitions.
Speaker 3:Yeah, like the smallest little thing that ends up on there. So, yeah, it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1:Yeah, definitely check it out.
Speaker 2:What do you?
Speaker 1:donate for motorcycles.
Speaker 3:You know I'm not sure. So yeah, our competition. today we're supporting the Motorcycle Relief Project, which is a local, front-range Colorado charity. They take veterans and first responders with PTSD on adventure motorcycle rides. They do over 20 rides a year in Colorado and Arizona. I actually Mike, the guy who runs it. he's out on a ride now So he can't actually be here, but we'll be handing over a check to them for as much money as we possibly can. We probably should have a link or something.
Speaker 4:I don't know if we can do that.
Speaker 3:We definitely can take checks. We can definitely can take donations through Rocky Mountain Gear to my status club. We'd be happy to donate that on your behalf.
Speaker 7:Absolutely.
Speaker 3:Or you can just go right to. I do believe it's motorcyclereliefprojectorg. I should double check that.
Speaker 1:Yeah, just Google the different Motorcycle Relief Project, i'm sure it'll pop right up And if you happen to find a different charity that has the similar name to it, donate to that too.
Speaker 1:All of these little charities can use all the help they can get And that's probably one of the best parts of these beard mustache competitions that most people probably aren't aware of is that all of these competitions are raising money for charity, so the competitors win ribbons. It's really When bragging rights and then all the money that's raised what you just came to spectate or compete all goes to charity. So it's definitely worth it if you, if you want to dip your toe in the in the Beard and mustache competition world, don't want to compete just yet, go as a spectator, see what it's all about and you will Be donated to a good cause at the same time.
Speaker 3:Yes, just to correct, it is motorrelieforg, motorrelieforg, motorrelieforg. Yeah, they have actually some really cool media videos showcasing some of the rides and things they do, and it's just yeah, it's a really great charity. We've met Mike. Mike is the guy who runs the show, so there's an excellent beard. I love seeing all these people I've never met and I'm like did you just see this online? Right, is it organic reach?
Speaker 1:on social media. That's still a thing, right? That would be great. It's discover us, you know, and it's fun because the mile high city is a big actual hair sink. There is a lot of great hair out there and get perfect and we love seeing it all over town and we try to get them here as much as we can. And You know, if it is that this year, it'll be next year.
Speaker 3:Yeah, no it's. I'm pleased with the turnout so far. We're just getting underway. We've got about maybe 45 minutes left to go on our speed styler. We got to make sure all of our judges get here all over the place. We got some Texans We're looking for.
Speaker 1:I don't know I mean the way he's working it. I mean he might be done with time to spare, exactly. I mean this man has got a count for science. It's incredible to watch him from, even from across the room here, seeing him just style that beard up and it's, it's already amazing.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so we did have. We have always done before and after pictures with our speed style in tests, so he already got his portrait taken before he started. We'll get a full portrait with all this Full style on there and we'll get all this fabulous costumes. We've got our buddy Gris from Wyoming. He's dressed in full rodeo clown gear makeup. We've got Super Mario all the way from Alabama.
Speaker 1:You know they have to say real men, wear Like that, make it look good in it.
Speaker 3:Oh exactly If. I any color I'm wearing is a masculine color.
Speaker 1:Exactly. So, yes, so, uh, yeah. So, joe, thank you again for Coming on and talking to us again. We're always happy to have you. We hope we'll have you back again, you know, and I'm really looking forward to the to the witty banter. And you guys will have up on stage here a little bit. Yeah, it's gonna be fun, but I guess it's Time to get back to work and we will, like Kevin, take over with the interviews right So.
Speaker 1:Joe Mills, thank you for joining us for the mile-high beard bow. Check out the Rocky Mountain beard and mustache club on Instagram and Facebook. Are we anywhere else?
Speaker 4:No that's about it. I mean, those are the big ones. I don't know. We're all like.
Speaker 1:During the different area and want to become a member. Not by some time. It will have locations posted up on Facebook and Instagram.
Speaker 3:Hey, if you're a 23 year old with a beard And you want to be our tic-tac person? We're hiring for social media, not hiring. We are accepting Volunteer. Yes, make our tic-tacs.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Nick is great. Kevin. Thank you guys coming out and supporting and we'll be here online. It's gonna be a phone right on. Thanks, buddy, right up.
Speaker 2:All right, nick did a great job interviewing with Joe Mills, but we got a really special guest here, and this is Chris from Casper Wyoming, who was a champion at the National Bearded Mustache Championship in Casper back in November of last year.
Speaker 7:Yeah, so How's it going? Griz Good man. So National was actually my first event ever. Yeah, I'd never been on stage before. I do a lot of public stuff and radio stuff for other companies in town And so I'm used to being in front of big crowds and things like that. Absolutely. I got super nervous at National. It was apparently noticeable because people were coming up to me like yo, dude, it's gonna be okay, chill out. And we ended up winning it, which is cool. Yeah, so it's. You know, thanks to Adam Smalley over here and Joe and these guys, it's a four hour drive for me.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 7:And I was like I gotta go, i gotta go, i gotta do it again, I gotta do it again.
Speaker 2:Griz, we are so happy that you're here, and I mean, this place is filling up like crazy.
Speaker 7:Look at all these guys out. Yeah, yeah, there's guys and gals.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the Whiskers will be here.
Speaker 7:You know, for me, like I said, National is being my first ever event.
Speaker 6:I didn't know what to expect.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 7:You know it was kind of a shock and awe, but a little bit of coolness. I did the bar call. I was a big part of that for the community Right And providing some form of after hours entertainment for the competitors that chose to make it up to Casper. And this is just my time to kind of enjoy the internet.
Speaker 2:Yeah Well, i can't wait to see you compete up there, because we'll be going live and I'll be telling people about Griz.
Speaker 7:Yeah, man, we're super excited, Yeah.
Speaker 2:So when the judges get up there, man, you look great. today You look like you could be out there and shine in front of your days, my friend.
Speaker 7:Yeah, well, i just got done coming off of the CNFR rodeo up in Casper, so big college national final rodeo up there, and it was a lot of fun. But yeah, i love I've been growing. It's kind of a funny story. So at CNFR nationals I haven't done any trimming, except for one mistake. So, I picked up glass blowing about three months ago And going into it I knew I was kind of at risk of things Yes, definitely.
Speaker 7:And I made a mistake one day and I looked down and I was slowly catching fire as it climbed. But if you notice, it looks OK.
Speaker 2:It does.
Speaker 7:It looks big, you can tell I put it out as fast as I could, but it was a scary thing. The wife says she can notice it in the mustache a little bit.
Speaker 2:But no, I can't.
Speaker 7:No, no, it's good, it's good. So I love the natural full beard category.
Speaker 2:Is that what?
Speaker 7:you're competing in, i am. So I'm in the 4 to 12 inch natural full beard, which for me, it's cool because I grow really super high cheeks And so it gives me an opportunity to really showcase some of those higher beards. Absolutely. But yeah, man, it's awesome. I'm glad to be here. Thanks for having us.
Speaker 2:Well, we're happy that you're here on the Goodbeard Society on our podcast. Like I said, we were up there supporting everyone up in Casper last year And we can't wait to go back there because the people are so nice up there.
Speaker 7:And one of the things that after Nationals we had a big outreach of people wanting to get involved in a beard club of some sort. I was kind of centralized to be that person to organize things, but I'm just too stinking busy, so we're trying.
Speaker 7:So my hairstylist up there I'm the Devil's Cup Barber Shop, shannon Neal, is a big beard-o And she loves the beard community. So we're hoping to get a group of guys together out of Wyoming, hopefully hoping to do another competition up there And maybe not something this size and raise some money to maybe get a group of people to world next year or something like that.
Speaker 2:So yeah, But we're excited to be supporting the motorcycle review.
Speaker 7:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:And, chris, i'm telling you, man, i'll be up there checking you out when this thing's going. Do it, man, and we're happy that you're here.
Speaker 7:Remember, man, it's all about the beard, it's all about the beard and the fun.
Speaker 2:That's it All right, bro, thanks. Thanks, sir. Okay, look who I got here. This is Dwight, And I gotta tell you, when I saw Dwight I thought of Jim Dorkin's immediate name. Jim was my partner at Dr Goodbeard.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 2:And you could see the picture here. Oh yeah, And he passed in 2021 for COVID. But I saw you and he had the same kind of beard and you're competing and I'm waiting for you. Okay, thank you. So tell us a little bit about you're here from Denver and how did you find out about us?
Speaker 4:Well, I've been doing beard competitions for about four or five years, I guess Joe Mills is the one who originally got me involved And I told him he wanted me to come down and do the show. My beard used to be down in my belt Right.
Speaker 7:And then over the last few years I've gotten old.
Speaker 2:So it all fell out And I was we were at a different county fair or something He wanted me to come down and do it. You know, I'm not into the whole testosterone competition.
Speaker 4:He's like well, that's not what it is at all, right It's a bunch of hairy guys hanging out and having a good time. And that really is what it is, so I've enjoyed every time I've hung out with these guys. I even went to Worlds in 2017 with these guys.
Speaker 2:Oh nice, because I just got back from work. Yeah, from Germany. Yeah, i heard, i heard. Yeah, i couldn't go to that one, but I can't compete like I used to.
Speaker 4:I don't have a beard like Joe's, you know, Or Scott or those guys. You know That's not me anymore.
Speaker 2:I know, I got to compete in what I got. That's what it is. I appreciate it, thank you.
Speaker 4:And thanks for supporting the motorcycle really project. Absolutely, yeah, absolutely. And I wish you the best of luck. And remember it's all about the beard man. It is. Any facial hair is valid facial hair.
Speaker 1:You got it.
Speaker 2:That's right, so I'm still good with this All right, my friend Thank you.
Speaker 1:You bet It does All right. So we're sitting here with Jono. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Speaker 8:So my name's Jono. We're here at the Mile High beard bout, which is super cool. Last time this happened was in 2019. Way too long, yeah, way too long. But the cool part about that is I end up winning style mustache in that competition. I can see why, and then I end up winning Best in Show, so this is pretty special competition.
Speaker 1:Yeah, this was oh. Yeah, you did that, for you won the last mile high bout.
Speaker 8:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And then you just win Best in.
Speaker 8:Show for the Nationals.
Speaker 6:For the Nationals of the.
Speaker 1:Casper, so you're on a streak man, yeah. You're gonna go for a three-peat.
Speaker 8:We'll see what happens. I was making a cowboy hat. I made this one And I was lighting when I'm firing Bert off a little bit of my curls.
Speaker 3:Oh so.
Speaker 8:So I shaved off the mustache, and this is only four months, so.
Speaker 6:Really.
Speaker 8:It looks great Thanks.
Speaker 1:I'm looking on getting the curls. Yeah, I get the curls back. So I gotta ask, as someone who has won so many of these competitions with the mustache How did I do? This is the first time that I've attempted the curl of the mustache with the beard.
Speaker 8:The curl is good. It's actually quite impressive how much volume you can have in the middle actually With the curls. If your curls were a little longer your ends you could really get in, like you know. But one thing I always tell people is when curling your mustache, people want to go forward with it, but then once you get that, you kind of get horns that go this way, Oh yeah. But what I do is just always roll it back, Okay, And try to curl, like. So what I do is when I get my brush, I essentially do this and I run it this way and blow dry it, Okay, And it helps set them from going too far back this way or this way.
Speaker 1:All right. So do me a favor. Tell those listeners who might be trying Out of their new stash or attempting a curl Like what is your process? Like what? is start the finish.
Speaker 8:Yeah. So one of the main things I can really have to do is, once you get out of the shower, you have like about a 10 to 15 minute window before that hair is dry to really do something with it, but you also want to assist it with a blow dryer. So you want to help it dry, but you want to put it where you want. So one thing that I do is like, right after I get out of the shower, i'll get the blow dryer and I'll grab a comb, i twist it this way and then just hit it with a little bit of heat Not too much heat, okay, because you don't want to fry your mustache, right, and essentially what you can do is get a really good shape without any product And then, once you have your shape, you can put in product and then hit it with the blow dryer again.
Speaker 8:So essentially, once you use product and put it in and then put heat from the blow dryer, it will lock up wherever it is. Oh good guess. So there's the pre-curl, which gets it where it wants it, and then there's the lock. All right, and that's really the way that I usually do it.
Speaker 1:Excellent. Do you have any big no-nos as far as when it comes to curling your eyelashes with the mustache?
Speaker 8:Yeah, i think some people when they're curling their mustache, sometimes they'll just put like a straight roller here no-transcript For the like, do the circle things. But what I always try to do is just like, use a barrel brush that is metal, so when you hit it with heat it's actually heating up the barrel like a curling iron. Okay, I would say no, nose, how usually out. The biggest no-no usually is never trim it or cut it. You know what I mean. Like even today I was like, okay, should I cut off these curls because I'm not there yet but I want to look good, but realistically that would step me back a week or two or three from getting a close curl again.
Speaker 8:So like the biggest thing with growing a mustache is just being patient. So I'm at four months. Obviously I got a mustache again, but like I can't get a closed curl and My last mustache it really took me about two solid years to get it in, like Where I was competing and like where it was like on the money, you know. So I guess the biggest thing is it's like Everybody's gonna have a different mustache Absolutely, and work with what you got and be patient with it.
Speaker 1:Yes, and I, i've always believed that patience is the key. It's all about hurry up and wait. You know I can't tell you how many times I've looked in fear and you know I've been like, oh, this isn't looked away. I wanted to, i'm just gonna shave it all off. And then I made a rule for myself that you know I You sleep on it. You know, if I feel the same way in the morning, okay, go for it. And I've never had. So. Yeah, patience, i absolutely agree, is the key to any successful Yeah, you got a good beard.
Speaker 8:Going on, how long you've been growing your beard this one, this particular race.
Speaker 1:I had to cut it back during COVID Masting. Yes, so this, i think, is about three years. That's solid. Thank you, sir.
Speaker 6:I appreciate that. So are you competing today?
Speaker 1:So today I'm judging. Are you judging, Yeah?
Speaker 8:what are you looking for in?
Speaker 1:a competition winning beard. I'm not yeah.
Speaker 8:So So many people ask me that especially people not the beard must ask community like how do you judge right? And I think there's like there's like three key things. I think one is a little bit of stage presence How somebody can just you know how they their confidence when they show you know. Stage presence is one thing. To Is definitely like the way their mustache or beard looks, because when you judge you can ask people what products they use and There'll be sometimes that people will do things with their beard and mustache and I'm just like how did you do that?
Speaker 1:You know I like. I want to learn how to do that.
Speaker 8:Yeah. So like there is like a really big technical thing like I know, when it's kind of like easy to do a mustache, or like when a lot of times put in, or If they got some rock and so good, i'm like I don't even know how you did this. This is amazing. Those are some of the things you look at and and once everybody's on stage It's kind of easier to to Judge. You know, if you were to just judge one person like really at a time, it would be tough, but when everybody's together you can kind of cross, analyze.
Speaker 8:Yeah, pick up the stand out winner and and most competitions that I've been to. When I did in judge Whoever, i wanted to at least be like the top three, you know, or who won. I get pretty dang Close like all the time, like when I watch competitions I'm like that guy's gonna win, that guy's gonna win.
Speaker 7:And Yeah.
Speaker 8:So I think being a judge is super cool thing. I I'm so humbled to be here. I, You know, I shaved off my championship mustache and now here I am And it's still good to be back in the community. Like people thought I was like gone for a minute, you know.
Speaker 1:Well, it's good to have you back. It's good to see you. I know I've seen you a couple of times. I was actually in the same 2019 competition with you nice for the mile high fear about and I ended up winning my category but lost. So, which is okay, because that's that is incredible.
Speaker 6:Yeah, yeah, man I appreciate you.
Speaker 1:You sit down for a minute and talking with us and good luck touching all the competitors. I know it's gonna be no easy task for you.
Speaker 8:Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of fun. There's a lot of good Mustache beards here right now. It's it's actually cool. Do you have a particular category that?
Speaker 1:you're looking forward to the most.
Speaker 8:To be honest with you, every single mustache, competition, the Creative mustache, creative beards as like it's so awesome Yeah, it's amazing to see what they can come up with.
Speaker 1:Yeah, i really appreciate you stopping by. Yeah, good luck with the judging, and and And. hopefully we'll talk to you again. Cool Sounds good, cheers Oh.
Speaker 2:Just got our first. He's coming over here. We're gonna move the camera and show everybody.
Speaker 8:Oh.
Speaker 5:No.
Speaker 1:We're going to start off with full pair freestyle.
Speaker 2:We're going to move on to freestyle, so this is going to begin.
Speaker 5:And we'll keep the enforcers that the ending goes on.
Speaker 2:We're announcing the judges now All right, now that we're done with the freestyle we're starting with the freestyle mustache. We got our first contestant up there showing the judges.
Speaker 6:It's got incredible. I don't know pencil thin mustache.
Speaker 2:It's really cool. Oh, who's this?
Speaker 5:Hello, my name is.
Speaker 2:Austin.
Speaker 4:Carter. Well, hey, austin, this is my grandson. He's helping us out today at the beer.
Speaker 2:He was just in the first cup of beer right now.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I mean, I would win if I got a beer. Yeah, well, what do you think of this competition? Austin, it's cool. I've never been to a beer competition.
Speaker 1:And let me just say yeah, i've always been into styles, cool, i mean yeah. I've never seen like style beer, i know.
Speaker 2:And they're in a street drug. We're going to do a little bit of interviewing with some people. We're going to do a little bit of lighters. We're going to do lighters And we're going to do some more of our jobs. Yeah, we've got our own. we've got our own list of Good job to uh pencil most guys, well I have a lot of great stuff.
Speaker 5:Oh, there was a list.
Speaker 2:OK, we're getting ready for the Whiskorinas. Whiskorinas We're going to start competing here in a minute And, uh, this should be interesting. It's always fun when these gals get up there and are creative, just putting on, um, their fake beers, and it's going to be pretty cool beer And I'm sure we'll be able to give a little talk with them soon enough after the competition And let's see how it goes. Ma, ma, ma ma.
Speaker 1:So I mean, this is the first time you've had to do here at the Mild Nive Beer. Now this is your first competition for any uh station at your competition, right?
Speaker 5:Yeah, ever, ever, just my first time. How did you do? Um, i think I did pretty good, i felt pretty good. I think my beer looks pretty good, Your beer looks great. Man, i appreciate it. It's been going up for about three years, so um ten years in military And, uh, i finally get to grow some patience here.
Speaker 1:Decided to go all out. Well, absolutely, I love it. Uh, so how did? how did? what were your first impressions of a, of a fish, at your competition?
Speaker 5:So I've been looking for some type of beer club or something for actually a couple of years And I met Scott at the golf course And it's had to meet him because it's such a long beard Oh my holy moly, people like that do grow. So it was, uh, it was pretty cool And he gave one of my guys uh, the beer pelt and uh my wife's like we got to go, we got to meet the people. You know long beard And you know it's uh man, what a great time tonight that I had. So it's just amazing And I'll do it every time. Excellent, you're hooked now. Oh, absolutely.
Speaker 1:Right, it takes. It only takes once. You meet all the great people. You have the experience and you just got to do it again and again, absolutely.
Speaker 5:I just wish we could go a little bit faster. I'm a little jealous to get some of the other competitors that are, uh, fast, fast beard growers. But man, what an awesome time. Just a great group of people.
Speaker 1:Yes, yes, they are some of the friendlies, people that you will ever meet. I mean you. You meet somebody for the very first time and it's like you've known them for 20 years. Yeah, it's so great.
Speaker 5:It definitely is zero judgment on anybody or anything that's here, no matter what you represent, or what you're doing. You know we just had a great time and almost felt like a family atmosphere, So it was absolutely amazing. It had such a great time.
Speaker 1:Yeah, And now that you've competed and found us, you know you are absolutely a part of the facial hair family.
Speaker 5:You are a family, I mean you are all of your family members here, so it's amazing, it is truly amazing. You get to meet a bunch of people who don't judge you on anything. It's like, hey, come in kind of must-ask a beard. Really, you can just have a personal anything. And if I had any, gone in and let's have a drink or let's have a beer, so to speak. it doesn't matter the strength, but yeah, what an atmosphere, what a great time.
Speaker 5:So I really appreciate you guys so much for coming out here And I definitely joined the Rock and Mountain Beard, just As Love, and I look forward to many more days. And I know the wife of us too. You know You think she'll compete next time She might. I didn't tell her, she's my little schoolmate. She had the little spots in the back, but I told her about bringing it down to the floor, so she may be out here and have a little facial hair herself.
Speaker 1:Awesome, you do that The husband wife. You're a great wife, absolutely.
Speaker 5:Absolutely, Hey. thank you so much for having us out here. And you know just an amazing time, Absolutely.
Speaker 1:And we're just so glad that you found us And that you could be part of the community. And did you have any expectations when you came into this? I expected to win. Tell me all.
Speaker 5:We always have come in hoping to win right, right, i did help the shortest beard in my category. So once again, the guys and everybody was amazing. You know I'm in a couple of Army guys that are out here And of course the one that had to, he was in the Army in 1986. So just an amazing time getting to meet people, getting to know people you know a little bit of their background stuff, like that.
Speaker 5:It was just absolutely incredible And I look forward to seeing you next time on our facial page with all of you guys, and whether it's coming out and competing or just having a beard or going out and playing golf. Joe and Scott, they're working on golf. I might be the shortest beard there too, but yeah, i might be the best golfer, yeah.
Speaker 1:Would you like to beard lengthen your makeup and gulfing skills? There you go, i don't know. Yeah, it's so funny with these. You know, you get used to so many compliments and comments about your beard And you're like, yeah, i can do it, i can do great.
Speaker 5:And then you walk into the room and you're like oh no, I guys like to go be with his beard longer than mine.
Speaker 1:He is Yeah, right, Yeah, it's definitely. it's very interesting. It's a very different chain for you. So you used to everybody noticing your beard.
Speaker 5:You walk in and you're like oh, i'm just another guy with a beard, so it is different, because I'll always have so many different backgrounds, so many different personalities.
Speaker 1:So you know, maybe I'm a little louder than most, but, man, i had a great time, i'm glad that you had fun and I'm glad that you made it out And I'm so glad that you're now part of the, you know, the facial hair community And you know we look forward to seeing you again and again. I'm sure you're going to be, you're going to be back and the name is going to be known. It's a great looking beard.
Speaker 1:I love coloring a bit. I, like you, know that the strength is getting out in the middle. I'm starting to get a little bit, you know, down here I'm really hoping that I get that good looking stripe.
Speaker 5:Someday we'll all be like Joe, right, right.
Speaker 4:Thank you so much.
Speaker 1:Yeah, i really appreciate you taking time to sit down and chat with me and give me kind of your first impressions of, you know, the the, the face of hair competition. We're all going to be a lot of those listeners, you know, have facial hair but it may have never entered a competition, so it's really good for them, i think, to hear somebody's first impressions of one of these. So, if you, if you have, um, now that you have some experience, any words of wisdom or advice for the listeners who may have ever entered, or considering what would you say to them?
Speaker 5:I would say you know, if you're starting to grow a facial hair, obviously let it grow. You see Nick's long and beautiful. Um, hey, come on out. There's so many different categories. You don't have to have a 27 inch beard, maybe, like Joe um, to come out and compete. There's a lot of guys. hey, if you have a mustache, get them ready.
Speaker 5:boys, i mean, just come on out and uh let it ride, if anything, come out and have a good old time. This, i think that's the biggest thing that we do here is hear them laugh and, you know, have a couple drinks and you know get a good time with your beard.
Speaker 6:Yeah, absolutely So come on out.
Speaker 5:It's no matter the length of your beard or mustache, come on out and hang out with us. We're we're a good bunch.
Speaker 1:I agree. Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking time to sit down and chat with us.
Speaker 5:Thanks, it was great to see you tonight. I really appreciate it. Yeah, you bet.
Speaker 1:So I'm here with Bill, and Bill is the first time that I've been to the Rocky Mountain beard mustache competition and just facial hair competitions together. Not only did he take first place in his category, he took it all home winning fest and show Bill how do you feel, man? It's great. Tell us about your experience. What do you think? Well, as I said, earlier. I'm a little shocked because I came out here just to meet people and see how people with facial hair work. I had no idea how people were going to be here.
Speaker 4:I was just shocked.
Speaker 2:Just show up, for that was fantastic, but then when the best Joe was like this is crazy.
Speaker 1:I'm in shock, crazy. So How did you find out about the Mild Head Gear Cows or a future competition? My daughter found it and she said hey, dad, you got to go. It's like, well, if you go with Mild Head Gear Cows, we both came out here and showed up and it was fantastic, really good, and did you have any expectations, or you know, when it came to the competition, before you showed up, when I walked in the door, i was like, whoa, a lot of fantastic gear, mustaches, and like when I signed up, i just signed up to go.
Speaker 1:And then I was like, well, i should probably compete, what the hell? And then when I came in the door, it's like, okay, yeah, no way, all these awesome gear, that's no way would I ever win. So I just like you know what? I came here to see the people and see what they were like And it is a fantastic looking gear. Do you get compliments on it regularly? Yeah, but I didn't. You don't know what you don't know. So I mean, it's just, it's crazy that I showed up here and somehow it's different Somehow it's somebody likes it, it's great, it just feels good.
Speaker 1:Yeah, thanks. I'm so glad that you made it out and I'm so glad that you're part of the Fish and the Earth community and you know family, because you know, all of these people are just like family. You know you introduce yourself to somebody who takes me there here and you can talk to them like you've known for 20 years. Oh yeah, i've made a lot of friends tonight and it's just great. I don't know what I expected, but it was certainly way up the top for expectations, so a good experience.
Speaker 6:Are you hooked?
Speaker 1:Oh yeah. Yeah, that'll be the next meeting. Yeah, I'm into it now. I'm going to keep growing. So you think maybe we, since your daughter, hope you find it easy to get her to compete next time in the Wistoryna category. Most definitely.
Speaker 5:She was so ready to do it this time, but not all the time to prepare.
Speaker 1:Still got them to be the next time. I would look forward to seeing that this year. And talk to yourself.
Speaker 2:Come up with something amazing.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, Great Well, Phil, thank you so much. Congratulations on not only taking first place in your category, but coming out for the very first competition of your bearded facial hair competition career and taking it all in. Phil, thank you, You're very welcome. Thank you so much for taking the time to sit down and talk with us and I would look forward to seeing you in the future. Yeah, me too, Thank you but thank you.
Speaker 1:So I'm here with one of only two of the Wistorynas to show up with my high beard about this evening. This is Zoe. Zoe, tell everybody, particularly the ladies who might be listening, how you got into the facial hair competition.
Speaker 6:Probably like a lot of Wistorynas. it's because of my husband And this particular competition. the charity was the Motorcycle Relief Project, which is very close to the GS Girls hearts and I'm a GS girl. I suggested the charity to the club and then a couple of days ago I was like I probably should be a Wistoryna since my competitive debut And I'm not sure if I'll ever do this again, but I feel like if any time, now would be the best time.
Speaker 1:And you took first place in your category right.
Speaker 3:I did.
Speaker 1:So first time out, first place, so you can go out on top if you decide not to do it again.
Speaker 6:That would be true.
Speaker 1:Did you enjoy it? What was the experience like for you?
Speaker 6:It's about what I would expect it to be, because I've been to a couple of these, but I do have to say it's more interesting as a competitor than it is to a spectator, for sure.
Speaker 1:And was that how you decided to compete? Like, have you been to enough of these? you know? like, screw it, I'm sick of watching.
Speaker 6:No. So how long did it take you to create your beer? It took about 10 hours. I started yesterday. I started playing around with the concept and then finished up today.
Speaker 1:And that's awesome. It's amazing to hear you know whether it takes three hours, 10 hours, to care about ladies' news, 150 hours putting together their beer. Would you ever consider spending more time building one now, or is that about the limit?
Speaker 6:Potentially I could spend more time, but I'm kind of a last minute person so there would be a limited amount of time that I could be able to make a crowd of beer.
Speaker 1:Percassination paid off this time.
Speaker 6:Well, i made polymer clay earrings and so the skills that I had to be inspired, so it wasn't like I was learning a new medium to make this beer, which I'm sure made it infinitely easier.
Speaker 1:So if you had any words, that was the advice for ladies who might be listening that might be interested in competing in the Whisper Media category, what would that be?
Speaker 6:Probably to just do it. Just do it. Yeah, like you know, think about something that interests you. I think I started with the theme. I was thinking I didn't want to buy a lot of stuff so I was like, what do I already have? And also, i'm making this decision.
Speaker 6:I'm very close to the line, so I don't have tons of time to be putting together, going to be an elaborate And I was like, alright, i'm going to do past selves, because I think some people maybe not all people, but some people have a bunch of wardrobe components and miscellaneous crap we collected over the years And I was like it would be fun just to shop in my own closet and pull things out that I haven't worn for a really long time. And so I got this like 80s to 90s matchup things that I have before since I was in high school, and then I just made a beer to match that outfit.
Speaker 1:Very nice And you pulled off the look. Well, It looks great And it made off. Just you won your category.
Speaker 6:It did. So, my surprise, maybe not everyone else.
Speaker 1:Well, congratulations from them And I really appreciate you taking a couple of minutes to sit down and chat with us. And again, congratulations, and I'm sure we'll see you here, thank you. Thank you.
Speaker 6:Nothing else for the next meeting right, alright, well, thank you.
